Facing a Red Sea Challenge - Priscilla Shirer

"13.Moses answered the people, Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14.The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" - Exodus 14:13-14 NIV

Hi guys,

So recently, I was hit with some unexpected news and I slowly felt myself going into a phase of doubt. I struggled praying and so at times I would type out letters to God or simply just watch a sermon.

I don't know why, but I just have a thing for sermons.

You know that feeling when you just find something that works so well for you? Yes! That's how I feel every time I watch a sermon lol...

This particular sermon means a lot to me. Simply because I actually went searching for some sort of encouragement and God led me to this sermon!

One thing I am learning in life is that self-pity gets you no where.

Self-pity is actually a time-waster.

Imagine the amount of time people spend feeling sorry for themselves? That same time, could be used to do something more productive!

Its the idea of "it is not what happens that matters but rather what you do about it". So rather than self-pity, be determined to always pick yourself back up and keep pushing for greatness!

So for me, rather that dwelling in fear and doubt, I decided to get myself together and look for a way out.

This sermon has already been watched twice lol!!

I really hope this encourages someone today.

HERE GOES..

Priscilla Shirer uses the amazing story of the 'Israelites and the Red Sea' in Exodus 14:13-14,to illustrate the challenges we all face in life.

For the Israelites, the Red Sea became a challenge for them. It became a threat to their progress.

Like the Israelites, we all go through different challenges but God is always there to encourage us all. In this particular event, God used Moses to encourage his people

Oh they must have complained as human beings but Moses (their leader) remained persistent in his encouragement.

He told them to be:

  1. Be Fearless - fear cripples you from progress and so learn to exchange fear for an opportunity to pray. If prayer is not your thing then find something else! (watch a sermon, praise, read a book.. BE ACTIVE)
  2. Be Still / Stand Firm - do not be moved by the circumstance but rather plant your feet firmly on the promises of God. One thing I realised with my brief moment of doubt was that fear is actually insulting to God. How can I say I trust God and still be moved by problems around me? That is me saying, I trust God but not enough for him to sort all my problems. Real trust drives out all fear! It actually brings about the opposite -confidence.
  3. Be Watchful - be watchful and thankful for the little things God has already has started doing in your life.
  4. Be Quiet - learn to guard your mouth from complaining. Discipline your mouth to speak nothing but the word of God into your life.
So yes, let us learn to trust God. He has actually promised to fight for us and so that should bring about a new sense of confidence!

GOD'S GOT YOU!

Check out the sermon HERE!

Till next time.
